What is CSMFHT?
CSMFHT stands for Classical Studies Memes for Hellenistic Teens. It started out as a Facebook meme page, before expanding to Twitter and now most other sites. The account is designed to be a humorous curation of memes about the Ancient World, in particular the Mediterranean. The content is designed to appeal to a wide audience with the overall goal of spreading knowledge and laughter at the same time.
Who runs CSMFHT?
The account is and has always been run by just one person, which feels like a feat in and of itself. Ben is a Secondary School teacher from New Zealand with a passion for memes, Classics and engaging new audiences. This Substack is an opportunity to go beyond the confines of these accounts, which are primarily focused on humour, and provide more context and nuance.
Should I pay?
The aim of this is for the majority of the content to be Free, however larger projects that take many days of work will be for paid subscribers. It is also a helpful way to support the account in a small way, as it requires thousands of hours every year for virtually no pay.
